Transport
Writtle College is situated two miles from the town centre of Chelmsford and just a few minutes walk from the main bus route through Writtle village.

There are several transport options for students attending Writtle College. The most popular are:

Essex County Council Post-16 Transport Scheme for Further Education Students fo the Academic Year 2012/13

This scheme is open to all full time FE students aged 16 but under 19 years of age prior to the beginning of the first year of the course. Students apply direct to Essex County Council. The current fee is £485 (2011/12 figure) and students will be carried on public transport. The council do purchase some seats on our minibus where these seats are available.

Each council operates its own transport policy, and the above information relates only to students living within Essex County Council. We therefore suggest that you contact the council specific to where you live to discuss schemes operating in your area.

Writtle College Subsidised Bus Service

The College provides a morning and evening minibus service from the following areas:
  • Bishops Stortford/Great Dunmow/Sawbridgeworth
  • Grays/Chadwell St Mary/Linford/Stanford-le-Hope
  • Harlow/Epping
  • Hornchurch/Romford
  • Southend/Rayleigh/Wickford

These minibus services are a morning and evening service during FE term times. Places on this service are allotted on a first come first served basis with priority to all full time FE students aged 16 but under 19 years of age prior to the beginning of the first year of the course. The current fee for the service is £975 (2011/12 figure). Students on courses running one day a week can apply for seats at a standard fee only if available.

The above routes, locations and cost may change or be discontinued depending on demand for Semesters 2012/13.

Mini-bus service from Chelmsford Station to Writtle College

Writtle College currently operate a free shuttle bus service to and from the railway and bus station area in Chelmsford mornings and evenings.

The minibuses pickup in Coval Lane, Chelmsford (beside the council offices). This is a first come first served service and there is no need to book a seat.

  • Morning: 8:15 to 9:15
  • Evening: 16:15 to 17:15
