Established in 1893, Writtle College has been producing leaders in the land-based industries and organisations for over 100 years. Writtle is one of the oldest and largest specialist colleges supporting careers focused on Business and the "Green Industries". It has a well established international reputation with students studying here from over 50 nations currently, and with many of its past students now working, many in senior positions, in over 100 nations worldwide. Writtle also has numerous international links across five continents, including North America, South and East Asia, Europe, Africa, and Australia, and these are continuing to expand.

Ongoing investment in facilities

To keep up with the changing needs of our students, Writtle commits regular investment to our learning and support facilities. New developments at Writtle include:
  • Learner support Unit providing academic and pastoral support to help you complete your studies

  • Interior Design Building with fully fitted workshops and practice areas

  • Major investment in IT services for students including 30% increase in student computers

Students benefit from opportunities to acquire practical and applied skills through work experience, overseas exchanges, language modules, off-site case studies and visits to industrial enterprises. Our vast links with other institutions at home and overseas keep our students in touch with the most pertinent worldwide issues as they arise.

Our unique Careers Centre provides students with specialist career planning advice tailored to the subject of study.

Onwards and Upwards

Progression opportunities are available for all students on successful completion of their studies. Writtle provides a seamless route through Higher National Diplomas, Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees, Masters and PhD qualifications.

The leading name in land-based education

Writtle has been identified by the DfEE to offer an official pilot scheme for the new Foundation Degrees in Land-Based industries.

The campus is surrounded by its own estate, farm and gardens serving as a 'green laboratory' for students. Chelmsford is just two miles away with a wealth of facilities and entertainment and quick (40 minute) rail access to London.

With guidance from our experienced tutors, flexible study programmes can be tailored to your lifestyle and prior commitments. A full counselling service and child care facilities are available on campus. All undergraduate and postgraduate students qualify with degrees awarded by the University of Essex, one of the UK's leading teaching and research universities, currently ranked within the top 10 for research.

Strong international student support

The Learning Support Centre offers a full range of help to support students through their studies. These include a full-time career advisory service, counseling and financial advice. The International Students Club runs a full programme of social activities and visits including, for example ethnic theme parties, trips to the local ice rink or ten pin bowling, and weekend trips to London, Cambridge and to concerts.
