Writtle re visited after 50 years

Three students from the class of 1959 recently visited the college for an update tour. John Sadler – local grower from Burnham on Crouch, who’s Father had lectured at Writtle in the 1930s and whose Uncle was former Principle Ben Harvey, together with best friends Rick Norris from Aberdeen who was involved in the initiation of the Scottish salmon farming industry, and Mick Parr who farmed in New Zealand before moving to Brisbane Australia. All studied the National Diploma in Agriculture in 1959 when the exams were truly national and held that year in Leeds- a long Triumph Herald journey up the new M1 motorway!

Former residents of Dent and Gill Hostels, the three gentlemen shared many ‘student’ stories with Lin Blunt and Wyn Morgan as they were shown around the campus and farm. A highlight was actually finding a photograph with 2 of them on it – the rugby team of 1959, one of only two early photos in black and white on display in the rec centre corridor. (The photo will be copied and forwarded to them shortly to further remind them of Writtle revisited.)
