Employability Statement
Writtle College wants you to graduate with a good qualification and the skills to enter the world of work. Your future employability is one of our main goals and we are able to support you with this throughout your time at Writtle and beyond. Our courses are designed and delivered with your future employment in mind. We work closely with employers from a range of relevant industrial sectors, achieving accreditation where appropriate; to ensure that what you learn will have real currency in the work-place.

Across the different vocational sectors, the undergraduate curriculum contains generic modules which develop Personal Development Planning, career development and employability skills and creates opportunities for employer engagement. In foundation degrees up to one quarter of the course focuses on Learning Through Work experience on a paid or voluntary basis. Through these sessions you will be able to make clear links between what you are learning and where this might lead you to in the world of work and increase your broader employability skills. We ensure that our vocationally-oriented courses remain relevant to the sector’s or employer’s needs.

Our Careers Advisory Service has recently been reaccredited with the Matrix standard for continuous quality and improvement, so you can be assured of receiving a professional service which is impartial, confidential and accessible to all Higher Education students. Our unique selling point stems from the nature of Writtle College. As a small specialist Higher Education institution we are able to offer a personalised careers guidance service to each student; a service which some larger institutions are no longer able to offer. In short we can provide a bespoke careers service at a time that suits you. You can choose from a portfolio of services including an individual career guidance interview, attendance at employer events as well as a vacancy service via our Virtual Jobs Notice Board and email notification of vacancies. We maintain ongoing contact with employers who return to us with vacancies on a regular basis and this aids our graduates in finding suitable employment. We keep abreast of labour market changes to provide you with up-to-date information. Our aim is to empower you to make independent, informed choices for your future career.

We can also direct you to opportunities for developing employability skills outside the curriculum through part time jobs, or volunteering on and off campus; all invaluable skills to include on the winning CV which we will help you prepare.

After graduation our service continues; we can support you in finding suitable employment for up to three years.

Good luck in your search for the right course and university – we hope to meet you during Freshers’ Week at Writtle College!
