International Student Support

International students on a trip to Tower Bridge; London, October 2010

A Caring Atmosphere

The College has developed a strong international student support system which not only caters for specific religious, cultural and dietary needs but also offers counselling and friendly help with issues such as home-sickness plus provides extra social activities co-ordinated by the College's International Student Support Officer. The support system also extends to vacation periods as it is recognised that it may be impractical for some overseas students to return home in the holidays. All services are delivered by professional trained staff.

All students are given e-mail addresses and have totally free e-mail access through the College's Internet linked computers. Students can thus regularly keep in touch with home.

Students' Club

With an ever-increasing number of international students studying and living at Writtle, a social club was established in 1997. The Club meets regularly and organises activities such as quiz evenings, day trips, cultural theme parties, presentations by student groups on their home country and trips to the local ice rink and bowling alley, as well as celebration meals for special occasions. The Club also ensures good social integration between nationalities - with home students encouraged to participate in the friendly supportive atmosphere.

Language Services

Pre-Sessional English Language Courses are offered during the summer in addition to other language services, including free English language classes and tutorials during the academic year.

Health and Safety

We want your stay at Writtle to be a valuable and enjoyable educational and cultural experience. By international standards, the UK is a safe country, with low levels of violence and street crime. The British Council, the Home Office and the police are working together to make all students less vulnerable to crime while they are studying at school, college or university in the UK and have prepared a guide for international students coming to the UK, containing useful advice and information on personal safety. An electronic version of this guide is available to download for viewing and printing: British Council Guide to Personal Safety (PDF 661KB).
