Level 3 Work-Based in Horse Care

Areas of Study
In depth study of the monitoring and routine care of horses, competition fittening programmes, schooling, general exercising and also non-riding options such as Care of the Performance Horse.
About the Course
This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work effectively as an assistant supervisor at an equine establishment. This course is studied preferably as an Advanced Apprenticeship or occasionally as a 'Stand Alone' qualification.
Method of Assessment
You will receive continuous assessment in the workplace by a qualified Assessor who will visit every two months to monitor progress and complete planned assessments.
Work Placements
You will need to be employed in the equine industry in an approved workplace. You will receive regular visits from trained College staff who will monitor your progress. Advanced Apprentices if aged 16-18 are exempt from the national minimum wage, if aged 19+ at the start of the scheme, then are exempt from the minimum wage for the first 12 months.
After Completion of Your Course...
Upon completion, students can progress to BHS Stages 3 or 4. You will also have the skills required to work as an assistant yard manager or assistant stud manager.
