Schools and Colleges Liaison Initiative
The Schools and Colleges initiative is designed to introduce school and college students to Writtle College and the range of further and higher education opportunities and ultimately careers that are available in specialist industries.
Throughout the academic year, schools and colleges from across the region are invited to take part in a series of events and initiatives, related to art and design, sport, animals and equine, horticulture and floristry, agriculture, business, science and technology and the environment. All activities are linked closely to students’ current curricular studies.
How is it evolving?
The initiative is now a well known brand with schools and due to its success for the College’s further education division has now been fully extended to our higher education division.
Aims of the programme:
- To inspire students to consider studying at further and higher education in specialist industries, emphasising what is available to them locally, through a range of innovative events and initiatives.
- To raise awareness of Writtle College as an FE and HE institution.
- To encourage the participation of school and college students at events.
- To work closely with the Aimhigher Development Officer to ensure a direct link between Schools and Colleges Liaison activities and Aimhigher/Widening Participation activities.
- To ensure that all activities we offer link directly with the national curriculum and key stage levels and promote the link to teachers, course leaders and curriculum planners.
- To continue to make and maintain direct links with course leaders in FE Colleges and teachers in schools, so that they understand what we can offer their students and can identify which of their students would make ideal Writtle students.
- Continue to attend Careers Events, Talks and Industry Days at schools and colleges to raise the profile of Writtle College, emphasising our HE provision.
- Continue to update and maintain the central schools and colleges database of all events and communications had with schools and colleges throughout the College and keep up-to-date contacts.
- To continue to develop the Schools and Colleges page on the website, to be used as an information tool for teachers and course leaders.
- To continue to analyse our own students data and enquiries to establish trends in relation to schools and colleges liaison work.
