The BWRC annual Conference to be held at Writtle

The British Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition (BWRC) is holding their annual symposium at Writtle College on Saturday 21 November in the Northumberland Lecture Theatre.

This years conference is entitled Research - the 'Cutting Edge' of Wildlife Rehabilitation and includes invited speakers who are recognised experts in this field.

The conference is particularly suited to both Further and Higher Education students studying Animal courses and Conservation.

Topics and speakers will be:

The importance of research and data collection in wildlife rehabilitation - Adam Grogan (RSPCA)

Reasons for the presentation of adult badger casualties to a rehabilitation centre and veterinary surgery and outcomes following treatment - Elizabeth Mullineux (Quantock Veterinary Hospital, Somerset, sponsored by Spike's World).

Rehabilitating Raptors - Chris Sperring (Hawk & Owl Trust)

Post-release monitoring of tawny owls - Campbell Murn (Hawk Conservancy)

Do Hedgehogs born to late litters gain weight at the same rate as those born to early litters?- Dr Toni Bunnell (University of Hull)

Follow up studies of rehabilitated hedgehogs - Dr Pat Morris (Royal Holloway, University of London, retired) sponsored by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society

Hedgehog disease surveillance programme - Katie Colville (Zoological Society of London)

The mission of the BWRC is to promote the welfare of wildlife casualties both whilst in captivity and after release back into the wild, and to ensure that casualties are handled within the framework and spirit of the law. The Council is run by a voluntary Steering Committee, which meets several times a year and encourages contact between rehabilitators, organising symposiums and regional workshops, and periodically issuing a BWRC newsletter.
