Board of Governors

On 1 October, 1994, the College transferred from the Further Education sector to the Higher Education sector upon the authority of the Secretary of State for Education and by order of the Privy Council under Section 124A (3) and (4) of the Education Reform Act, 1988.

The Board of Governors was reconstituted from the aforesaid date of transfer.

Membership

The Instrument of Government of the College determines the overall size of the Board, its categories of membership and it limits the numbers within each defined category. Its composition is as follows:

Committees of the Board of Governors

The Governing Body of Writtle College delegates some of its powers and some of its work to Committees of the Board of Governors.

The Articles of Government for the College specify that there will be a Personnel Committee and a Finance and General Purposes Committee, and the Board may also establish committees for any purpose or function. In addition, the Higher Education Funding Council for England requires the College to have an Audit Committee to provide independent and authoritative advice to the Board of Governors.
