Fairtrade

Fairtrade
Writtle College, as part of its commitment to sustainability, strives to be a Fairtrade College. At the instigation of the student body and with the full and enthusiastic support of senior management, a steering group has been set up to take this commitment forward.

Fairtrade foods are available in all retail and catering outlets in the College and there is a commitment to extend the range of products offered. Fairtrade foods are served at all meetings hosted by the College and the Student Union and in all management offices. Fairtrade is promoted via College noticeboards and through events such as the Food, Farming and Fair Trade Conference organised by the Centre for the Environment and Rural Affairs (CERA). A series of events is being planned by the SU and the catering department for Fairtrade Fortnight 2008 which will further promote Fairtrade to staff and students of the College.

A wide range of products now carries the Fairtrade mark, ensuring that producers receive a fair price for their goods and a premium to provide stability for their work. The College regularly reviews its range of products to see where it is possible to extend the Fairtrade range.
