Level 1 Work-Based Diploma in Horse Care

Areas of Study

Five mandatory units on basic horse care, to include assisting with the handling of horses and general yard duties. There is an optional riding unit which can be completed depending on previous experience.

About the Course

This course is for students with little experience of working with horses to date and with no previous equine qualifications. Some experience of working with horses is preferred although not essential.

Method of Assessment

Assessment is on a continuing basis in the workplace by the Work-based assessors and also from roving College Assessors as necessary.

Work Placements

You will receive regular training at an approved workplace where you will be monitored regularly through visits by a training officer from Writtle College.

After Completion of Your Course...

After completion of your course you could progress to a higher level qualification such as the Level 2 Workbased Diploma in Horse Care as an apprentice or on to a full-time Level 2 Equine course at the College.

The course length is 12 months part-time depending on previous experience and requires a minimum of two days 'hands on' experience in the workplace.
