The BA (Hons) Professional Floristry degree and FdA at Writtle provide students with the specialist theory and practical skills required to become a florist within the industry - primarily in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Floristry encompasses a wide range of skills and attributes. The courses enable students to create bespoke designs with a high level of skill for a variety of occasions; to understand the design process, as well as botanical details about the care and handling of cut materials. An introduction to business and marketing are other important topics covered, enabling students to branch out into business later on.
Students on the floristry courses are able to draw inspiration from our picturesque campus and beautiful landscaped gardens. Our florists also enjoy full access to a purpose-built floristry building, allowing them to design and create in an appropriate environment. Our floristry team have a wealth of industry experience and they convey this knowledge to our students in order to enhance their learning.
Recent floristry graduates at Writtle have opened their own businesses or progressed onto a wide range of careers including freelancing for a range of floristry businesses, which specialise in wedding work or corporate events. Others have continued with further study, managed retail floristry sections within other businesses or worked in international floristry organisations including flower schools and hotels.
